Madelyn Lumsden
Illustrator and Ceramicist
Raised in Florida and Georgia, Madelyn Lumsden has been surrounded by nature her whole life. Spending her summers in Florida, exploring the Indian River Lagoon and beaches of Hutchinson Island cultivated a deep appreciation for all wildlife and an inherent disposition towards environmental ignorance. Her passion for nature was further fulled by her environment, living in rural Georgia and surrounded by people who care deeply for animals.
Drawing and painting was an integral part of her youth, and was encouraged by her family. Though she planned on being a zoologist for most of her life, AP art in high school showed her that a career as an illustrator was possible. Madelyn was accepted into NIU in 2020 and began as an art education major. She then changed to an emphasis in illustration and pursued freelance work until 2023. Ceramic medium had grasped her attention and helped fulfill the desire to create work that is physical. Now, Madelyn is graduating in December of 2024 with a double BFA in Illustration and Ceramics.
